The “Badass” 4700

Western Star 4700

The Western Star 4700 reminds some folks of those actresses in movies who are good-looking, but could break your arm at the same time.  Take a closer look and you may find it’s everything you can ask for in a badass truck.  Since it was just launched, we were really anxious to learn everything we could about it.

This truck is beauty, brains, and brawn, and I hope you were able to take a closer look at the Mid America Trucking Show if you attended the event in Louisville last month.  If you didn’t, there will be more opportunities to see one in the coming months at various places around the country.

Western Star 4700Inside the 4700

When you get a chance to see a Star at a show, don’t be surprised if the first thing you want to do is climb up inside.  This should be pretty easy in the latest 4700.  Take a look out and see if the sloped hood opens up your sight lines.  Then look for the body builder interface right in the cab which can make a big wiring job so much easier.  If your kid spills their soda, don’t worry too much about corroding the frame.  The cab is galvanized steel.  You should feel pretty safe sitting there even though not much is going to happen to you at the show.   It would be nice if you could take it for a spin and see how that 50 degree wheel cut gets you around some of the crowds.

Western Star 4700Outside the 4700

As you walk around the 4700, keep an eye out for the way the hood tilts for servicing and how the stationary grill makes installing pumps easier.  Don’t forget to peek at the engine.  As per usual with Western Star, there are options.  You can get a DD13 or either a Cummins ISC or ISL.  Choices are always good.

I hope you’ve enjoyed all the pictures from the show including the Western Star 4700.  We have more, so  check back for updates!  In the meantime, feel free to share your thoughts on the 4700 in the comments below.  We’d love to hear what you think.
